reflection

It was a very useful meeting, which we have done recently. We talked about the topic that we have chosen to discuss that problem and try to find appropriate solutions; we can end this problem though. The time and place for the meeting was decided earlier and was attended by members in a timely manner. And it was in C001 classroom at HCT at 10:35am on 17^th March 2013. I'm in my capacity as chair; I opened the meeting, welcoming members, and put up the issue. It was traffic and parking issues at Abu Dhabi Men’s College. This traffic is causing a problem for the students where they are late for an appointment. And sometime, cars are damaged. Then we started to talk about the agenda that we set up earlier, which contains the solutions we have set; we thought that we can solve the problem of traffic. Maaaz was receptive to most of the proposed solutions, and in particular easy solutions implementation. But I tried very hard to choose the solutions that can solve the problem for the long term. Hedley was anxious as he was very careful about the most important details that we may have been oblivious of. And finally we came to the most appropriate solution to this problem which is to build a three floor parking with underground foundations so we can increase the number of floors in the future. Then I closed the meeting by thanking the members and hoping that we had got the best solution.

Eissa who was chairman started talking about the parking problems at Abu Dhabi Men’s College at 10:36am.

1-    Extend the back parking area (behind F block).
 

Maaaz thought was an a acceptable idea

Eissa said it is not a very good idea because this area is too far from classes.

Hedley accepted the idea because he said we are already parking there sometimes.

 

2-    Change the building location (outside the island).

Eissa said this solution will be too expensive.

Maaaz agreed with it, because he thinks it will reduce traffic.

Hedley worried about the teachers and students who live on the island; it will be too far from them.

 

3-    Give the student stickers for car parking.

Maaaz said it is a good idea, because the college has applied it, and he thought it was good.

Eissa said it did not achieve the desired success.

Hedley disagreed with it because it will not decrease the number of cars in the parking area.

 

4-    Paid parking/short term – long term.

Eissa said it is bad; the study at college is free, so must the parking be free also.

Maaaz supported the idea because he thinks it will help students to find parking.

Hedley did not agree with it, because he thinks it will not reduce congestion.

 

5-    Build three-floor parking.

Eissa strongly agreed with it, because he thinks it will be the best solution to reduce the parking traffic.

Maaz agreed with Eissa; he thinks also it is a good idea.

Hedley worried when we close the area where we will build it, that it will come more traffic. Then Eissa said we will build it in the summer, when the number of students is small.

 

In conclusion we thought that:

·        Some of our solutions are good, but it will not be good for a long time, because the number of students is increasing every year, and buying a car has became easier.

·        The last point is the best solution (build three floor parking), because it will solve the parking problem for the long term.

 

Interview Assessment (Report)

The interview was in classroom C001 of Abu Dhabi Men’s college on Tuesday 26 February, at 11:15 am. The interviewee was Maaaz Ali Mubarak Aljneibi (H00216601) who applied for a job in the Human Resources department. The group is headed by interviewers Mr. Hedley, who in turn welcomed the interviewee, while the role of the other two members Essa Tayyeb Mohammed Al Awadi (H00231038) and Sultan Ahmad Ali Al Qubaisi (H00247456) was asking him detailed questions and debating with him.

 

Firstly, Mr. Hedley asked the interviewee to tell us about himself. Maaaz Aljneibi has a bachelor degree in Human Resources; he studied in Abu Dhabi Men’s College. And he is 26 years old. He has 1 year of experience in Dubai Islamic Bank. Maaaz was a very good speaker and he talked clearly about himself. Things that made ​​me think he was a suitable person for this job, is good eye contact with the interviewers, using his hands to show good body language; he has good grammar and uses some complex words and he has a very clear voice.

The interviewers asked Maaaz many questions. They asked what is your greatest strength? This was the easiest one, as he said he could communicate with others in an excellent manner, and he can work under pressure because he is still unmarried so he doesn’t have many commitments. But the most difficult question was what are your goals? Because he didn’t know the perfect answer: was the question limited only to the area of the job, or did it include all things worldly. I think he deserves this job, provided that taking training courses to help him do the job very well.
